FirstEnergy considers natural gas for power plant

FirstEnergy Corp. is considering modifying one of its power plants to add natural gas to the facility's three coal-fired boilers, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
The Akron-based utility's Hatfields Ferry power plant on the Monongahela River in Masontown, Pa., is under consideration for the project, which would take advantage of falling natural gas prices, the paper said. It would cost as much as $20 million per boiler to make the change, which also would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the paper said.
