Crude oil to go eastbound? TransCanada mulls over plans

The thick oil that pumps through Alberta's veins may soon bring new life to industry in the east.

The Huffington Post reports the CEO of TransCanada Corp confirmed the company is in the early stages of coming up with a plan to ship crude to refineries in the east.

Russ Girling said they have a lot of work to do. But Girling says it seems to make sense to a lot of people.

He spoke at the company's annual general meeting.

Refineries in the east have been hoping TransCanada finds it feasible to send the crude west so they won't have to buy the raw product at international prices.

Enbridge Inc, TransCanada's nemesis, is also looking into the idea. The company is looking at reversing the flow of part of its Line 9 pipeline in Ontario.

Those plans may be a ways away from becoming a reality as Girling told the Huffington Post it is still early.
